Matthew Steven Whitaker is a Knoxville-based singer-songwriter who crafts an authentic blend of indie folk/rock and alternative. For over a decade, Matthew has used songwriting to process the world, channeling personal struggles into honest, relatable music.

Following his 2022 EP, Hollow Voices, and the December 2025 single "2020 VISION," Matthew has invested every ounce of his creative energy into his upcoming debut solo album, WHAT DID I EXPECT? (arriving January 2027). This project is his most deeply personal work to date, capturing a decade's worth of growth and reflection. His performance at this year's Sunset on Central festival offers a rare, intimate preview of these unreleased tracks, shared by an artist who truly lives through his music.
