Legit smitty

Legit Smitty is the solo project of South Carolina born and raised Jake Smith, backed by a rotating cast of friends and family. Smitty wears his heart on his sleeve in hopes that others might feel more at home in their own skin.

In his own words, the project is “a low-budget romantic comedy – Indie Rock, and alt-folk with a tinge of twang.” His music carries echoes of the 90s and early 2000s, and is Influenced by artists like Wilco, MJ Lenderman and Pedro The Lion.

Smitty has produced and engineered for a number of bands throughut his time in Nashville, most notabely We Shrunk, Billy!, Sawyer Norman and Mercury. His production work with Mercury helped them land a record deal with Big Loud Rock in 2023.

Written in the wake of a tragic car accident that Smitty and his family were involved in, this record delves into faith, grief, love and loss.

His new album includes collaborations from Aidan Ogier (Emma Ogier), Son of The Challenger, Bennet Littlejohn (Hovvdy, Sinai Vessel), and was mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver, Wednesday, Zedd.)

Hailing from Columbia, SC, Smitty has found his creative home in Nashville, TN, where the thriving indie scene has helped him grow and solidify his craft. This new album showcases his most prolific work to date, encompassing a range of moods, from melancholic and romantic to reflective and aggressive.
